Snow Days with Dogs!

Snow Days with Dogs!

“My dog is going crazy! We can’t get out for walks it is too cold and there is too much snow, ice, and salt everywhere!”

As a professional dog trainer I have been hearing this complaint a lot especially in the last few weeks. It seems like we get storm after storm of accumulating snow. My dog River has been begging to go outside and I am avoiding being out as much as possible. When we have gotten out for walks they have been very short. More often River is getting limited time to romp in the snow.

So what do you do with a boisterous dog, who is holding in his energy until he is about to explode or finding destructive ways to get some energy out?

Snow days are a great time to teach your dogs some new tricks. When dogs are working their minds that can tire them out just as much, if not more than a short walk down the street.

Even River, a very mellow dog, is looking for things to do and is asking for some extra training time. He loves earning his cookies!

We have started going down Kyra Sundance’s trick list to earn his dog trick titles.

For an even more strenuous challenge River has started to learn how to shovel snow. Watch his YouTube video to see how River has been helping in the snow. It has sure been useful for tiring him out and he is now sound a sleep. For as they say “A tired dog is a happy dog!”

I have a passion for dog training. My Golden Retriever, River and I enjoy embarking on fun adventures! We enjoy learning new and fun dog sports and participating in doggy activities. I particularly enjoy teaching River tricks and he particularly loves anything that has to do with cookies, chasing squirrels, playing and generally having a good time. I am also an artist who enjoys painting, photography and other creative mediums.
