This is a simple and elegant ornament that looks great on the tree or as a decoration on a simple gift bag. All you need is a sheet of paper–I used a photocopy of a Christmas Carol, but anything will do–try a sheet of newspaper, a colorful magazine, scrapbook paper, or even parchment paper. Use raffia, jute, or ribbon to create the tie. No need to buy cardboard, just reuse a cardboard shipping box. Or, pick up a package of colored corrugated stock at your local craft store.
Next, place the star on top of a sheet of cardboard. Draw a larger star on the cardboard by leaving about 1/2″ gap between the paper star and the sketch lines.
Using an exacto knife, cut out cardboard star.
Peel away the top layer of paper to expose the corrugated inside.
Use the end of a paintbrush to remove paper pieces that may have stuck.
Glue the paper star onto the cardboard star.
Punch a hole at the top of the star.
Insert raffia into the hole to form a loop and tie a half bow in the front.
This would be a great way to use up some of those leftover pieces of wrapping paper that are too small for wrapping gifts!
Great idea Melinda!
