Orange Pumpkin Pie – My New Pi Day Favorite

Pumpkin pie is my favorite pie so I knew I wanted to make one in honor of Pi Day.  I decided to mix it up a little and added orange zest for a little tang.  I also used a homemade graham cracker crust but if you don’t have the time or inclination to make your own crust a store bought crust would be an acceptable substitute.  Reviews from my guinea pigs – I mean family – were mixed with two people really liking the addition of the orange and two preferring a more traditional pumpkin pie to the orange pumpkin pie.  Try this recipe for yourself and let us know what you prefer.

When making the crust try to keep it as uniformly thick as possible, this will ensure that it cooks more evenly.  Before pouring the pumpkin mixture into the crust place the crust onto a baking sheet, this way if the pie plate is not level as it goes into the oven spills will be confined to the baking sheet and will make clean up easier.
