Celebrate Pi day with Pie!

Celebrate Pi day with Pie!

Pi Day CountdownDid you know that there is a day dedicated to pie? Pi, I mean. Pi day is quickly approaching, celebrated on 3.14.

Pie and pi sound the same, so what’s the difference?

Well, pie is a food, most commonly a dessert. They are usually baked, and circular in shape. A pastry, or crust, generally comprises the outside, creating a shell that holds a filling. The variety of fillings is pretty diverse; pies can be filled with vegetables, meat, pudding, custard, and more! Some pies are covered (or double crusted) while some are not.

What is pi? According to piday.org (yes, there is a website dedicated to celebrating pi day), Pi  “(Greek letter “π”) is the symbol used in mathematics to represent a constant — the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter — which is approximately 3.14159.” Learn more about pi and pi day celebrations at  piday.org.

Pi has to do with circles, and Pies are circular, so why not celebrate Pi day with pie! Let’s eat!

I love making homemade pizza. It taste so much better than frozen pizza or store bought pizza. Plus, I can control what ingredients are used and make it healthier. Here’s my basic pizza recipe that I used. For my pi day pizza, I omitted the ham and added pepperoni to the top!

Easy Crock Pot Pumpkin Pie for Pi Day!

Why stop with dinner? How about a pie for dessert? This is another one of my favorite recipes, and it’s so simple and easy to make!

Crust-less Crock-pot Pumpkin Pie

Ingredients

  • 15oz pumpkin puree
  • 12oz evaporated milk
  • 3/4 cups dark brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup Bisquick
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tablespoons butter (melted)
  • 1-1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon cloves
  • 1/8 teaspoon ginger
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Directions

Step 1
First, spray your crockpot with cooking spray.
Step 2
Now, the easy part: combine all of the ingredients and whisk until fully combined. Then, pour the ingredients into your crockpot
Step 3
In my crockpot, the pie cooked in about 2 hours on high. If you’re using a smaller crockpot, cook on high for 3-4 hours. The pie will brown and crack in spots much like an oven baked pie, and should be firm to the touch.
Step 4
Let cool, then spoon onto plates and top with whipped topping.

There are so many yummy pies, why not celebrate Pi Day by making a few!
